The only major stylistic difference I saw was the eyes, and even that, if I saw both sets of eyes in the same cartoon it wouldn't jar me. I think instead of dropping a style, you should just expand. If you try to actively define a style, it probably won't work out perfectly. If you let a style emerge on it's own, though, you're golden. Don't let anime hold you back, but don't abandon it completely either. Just do your own thing and screw conventions.
